Brownfield Responds to Democrats' $53 Billion Budget

30 May, 2024

Illinois Democrats have once again shown their disregard for effective governance. Their latest misstep is the annual late-night budget release, followed by a rushed, uninformed vote. This year, Democrat budget negotiators introduced a document detailing over $53 billion in spending.

Democratic members of the General Assembly, including Senator Paul Faraci, voted in favor of this year's budget. As he touts this as a win for taxpayers in Springfield, the reality tells a different story.

Key aspects of this year's budget include:
- $53 billion in total spending
- $1 billion allocated for free healthcare and housing for illegal immigrants
- Over $1 billion in tax increases on working families
- Spends $2 billion MORE than last year’s budget
- A $2,550 pay raise for legislators

In response to this situation, Senate candidate Jeff Brownfield released the following statement:

‘Senator Paul Faraci has clearly shown that he prioritizes non-citizens over the hard-working families of Central Illinois. By voting with the Chicago Democratic machine for a billion-dollar tax hike and increased spending, he has burdened our families with unnecessary financial strain. This has led to higher costs for essential services, making it harder for families to make ends meet.

His refusal to stand up to JB Pritzker on behalf of Central Illinois taxpayers is unacceptable. As a political outsider, I am dedicated to fighting for Central Illinois and putting our needs first. I will work to reduce the tax burden, support small businesses, farmers and prioritize responsible spending. It’s time for a fresh perspective in Springfield. I am committed to being that voice and making a positive impact on our community. Together, we can create a more prosperous and secure future for Central Illinois.’
